Mode-locked laser pulse train stabilization via feedback and coupling
Abstract:
High-repetition rate ultra-short light sources are essential for optical data communication and all-optical computing. Promising candidates, particularly for on-chip optical data communication, are semiconductor passively mode-locked lasers. Such devices produce light pulses through the interpay between an absorbing and an amplifying section. However, the regularity of the emitted pulse trains is significantly degraded by spontaneous emission noise leading to a so called timing jitter. For both feedback and coupled laser schemes we investigate the influence of the feedback and coupling parameters on the timing jitter.
