Qualifying Students within the Research Training Group
We regard the RTG as an additional layer of training and qualification,
where highly qualified students develop the necessary skills in order
to compete on an international stage as independent researchers or
professionals at the highest level either in academia or in industry.
During the three year Ph.D. period we therefore aim
- to provide students with state-of-the-art research methodologies,
both numerical and analytical, from nonlinear systems theory in general
and from their respective research areas in particular; - to train them in interdisciplinary work;
- to provide students with presentation and rhetorical skills for
speaking to larger audiences and to their fellow students; - to train them in critically judging a presentation and in formulating
questions that try to get to the bottom of the topic presented.
To achieve these goals, we will set up a qualification concept
that consists of a study program with several modules, a guest
scientist program, and additional measures. Furthermore, all doctoral
students will be jointly supervised by two to three participating
scientists who, throughout the thesis, will always critically review the
progress of the thesis and the skills of the students. One project
leader will serve as the student's mentor.
